Admission Policy

Victoria English School welcomes applications from students around the world. We offer the academic rigour and excellence of a British education, along with the friendly caring ethos of a small family orientated school. The school’s popularity within the community means that demand for places can be high and there are currently waiting lists in a number of year groups. However, we are always pleased to meet parents and discuss the admissions process for children wishing to join VES.

Procedure for New Applications

  • The window date for new applications will be posted on the website. If you are unsure, please contact the school and we will confirm dates with you.
  • All children are required to take our assessment test and passing this is one of the criteria for acceptance.
  • Assessment applications can be found online on our website. Any required documentation must be submitted by the dates published on the form, along with the fees for the assessment.
  • You will be contacted by our Administration team with an appointment time and date for the assessment.
  • After confirmation of your child’s acceptance you are required to complete a registration form and submit it to the Accounts Department.  Fees payment and any additional documentation required must also be submitted at this time. This must be completed within 5 working days of acceptance.

Key Stage 5 (A level) Applications

Entry into Key Stage 5 is open to external students. Requirements for entry are:

  • minimum grades of A* - C in 5 subjects including Mathematics and English
  • minimum Grade B in any subject a student wishes to pursue at A level
  • minimum Grade A in iGCSE Mathematics to study the subject at A level

All students entering Key Stage 5 will be expected to study a minimum of 4 subjects in Year 12.

As a British style school operating within the remit of the Ministry of Education, our starting age in Foundation Stage and Year 1 are as follows:

Foundation Stage 1

must be 4 years old

by 31 December on year of admission

Foundation Stage 2

must be 5 years old

by 31 December on year of admission

Year 1

must be 6 years old

by 31 December on year of admission

If you wish to enrol your child in Victoria English School it is important to ensure you have all the documentation required. Please read the information carefully otherwise your application will be delayed and at worse, the place may be lost.

Transfer documents, letters from previous schools and past reports bearing the appropriate stamps must be submitted to the school and then to the Ministry of Education confirming a child’s last year of full time education. This is necessary to place your child into the correct year group. A child who has missed a year or taken a year out of full time education will be placed in year above the last full one attended.

  • Non refundable deposit
  • Tuition
  • Books
  • Medical
  • Transport (optional service)

Additional Fees:

  • External examinations in Key Stages 4 and 5

Documents Required

To register your child with the Ministry of Education we require the following documents:

  • Original UAE ID card for all Foundation Stage 1 and 2 and Yr 1 children who are entering education for the first time
  • Original UAE ID card for any new child joining the school from the UAE and abroad
  • Original passport of the student
  • 2 copies of student’s passport with visa and entry stamp
  • 2 copies of student’s birth certificate
  • 1 copy of father’s and mother’s passport with visa and entry stamp
  • 2 copies of UAE Family book (UAE Nationals only)
  • Copy of the vaccination record and medical record
  • 2 copies of Emirates ID card (front and back)
  • Transfer certificate from previous school (where applicable)
  • 5 passport size photographs
  • Letter from student’s last school confirming the year or grade they were last registered in
  • Copy of most recent school report
  • Bus location map (if applicable)

Document Information

Please ensure you have the necessary documents (as detailed) before submitting your application to the school. It is important you read and understand the following as non-compliance could have your child miss out on a place at the school.

1.     Passport Copy with Visa Entry Stamp

If the residence visa is still under process please send us a copy of your child’s visit visa or

entry stamp and the father’s employment visa.

2.     UAE Family Book

A copy of all relevant pages from the UAE Family book. This applies to UAE Nationals only.

3.     Vaccination Record and Medical Record Cards

A copy of your child’s up to date medical information

4.     Transfer Certificate

a.     Child transferring within UAE:

Transfer certificate must be issued by the previous school and stamped by the branch of the UAE Ministry of Education in the Emirate concerned.

b.     Child transferring from a school in a GCC country:

Transfer certificate must be issued by the previous school and stamped  by the country’s Ministry of Education.

c.     Child transferring from other Arab/Asian/South American/Eastern European countries:

Transfer certificate must be issued by the previous school and attested by the following authorities before you relocate to the UAE 

  •  
    • The Ministry of Education
    • The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs
    • The UAE Embassy. If there is no embassy or consulate in the country concerned you can skip this step because you will be able to have it attested in the UAE Foreign Affairs after you arrive in the UAE.

d.     Child transferring from a school in any other country (UK, Western Europe, New Zealand, Australia, North America, Canada):

A transfer certificate/leaving letter (required from Years 1 upwards) to be be issued by the previous school. the letter must be printed on original school’s letterhead and signed by the Principal/Head of School. E-mailed or faxed copies are not accepted by the UAE Ministry of Education. It must be the original document.

6.     Transport

Please note we offer a limited bus transport service which is chargeable under additional fees. The service is operated from certain pickup points. We do not guarantee a door to door service and we do not guarantee pick up from all areas of each Emirate. Our transport may be fully booked at the time the place is offered; therefore you must be prepared to make alternative arrangements in case we are not able to provide transport.

 Reservation

The school must operate within acceptable educational limits and we aim to provide a positive outcome for all children and parents. We reserve the right to refuse entry to Victoria English School on the following grounds:

  • If the year group appropriate to the applicant is already full.
  • If in our professional judgement, the applicant is not suited to the programme which the school offers.
